AOL City Guide Releases City's Best 2006
March may be early for a best-of list, but don't tell AOL that. They've released their City's Best guide for 2006. There are tons of great places, but we're obviously most interested in the burgers. AOL's lists are built from editorial nominations and user votes, which usually means the same old places show up on the list, but that isn't necessarily the case for the NYC winners. Peter Luger, which we really do intend to visit soon, took the top spot. The rest of list, in order, is NY Burger Co., Burger Joint, Corner Bistro, Union Square Cafe, J.G. Melon, Blue 9, Pop Burger, Spotted Pig and Rare Bar and Grill.
The list seems to have some clunkers (like Blue 9, which has been going downhill for a while, and NY Burger Co., which got bad user reviews despite its position in the list) but otherwise has some good choices. The most glaring omission is Shake Shack. I'm not saying it's gotta be number one, but it should be in the top ten.
If you're not a New Yorker, City Guide also has 15 burgers to die for, which is a list of the best from around the country. And here is the tops for Chicago, Los Angeles and D.C..

I don't know what you guys are talking about. Blue 9 is as good as ever, or better. They were almost the only one that belongs on the list. Here's my top ten, off the top of my head:
1. Shake Shack
2. Veselka
3. Soup Burg
4. Tavern on Jane
5. Burke in a Box
6. Blue Smoke
7. Big Nick's
8. Joe Jr.'s
9. Blue 9
10.Chelsea Gallery Restaurant
that's just off the top of my head. Maybe you guys, and your readers, have your own lists?

Mr. Cutlets, curious about your devotion to Veselka for a top burger. Based on a comment you made about Veselka having one of your fav burgers in the city, a few members and I had an club meat eat there... and I gotta say, that it's a decent diner style burger, but the meat has once been frozen! what's that about? I loved the light seeded bun, and flame kissed taste... but the texture of the sponge-like patty made me wonder why you pick Veselka for burgers... I personaly would never get the burger there again as there are definitly more than 10 better places in the city for burgers. And Blue 9, Burger Joint and Goodburger have a much better product.

Josh, I think I'll have to make another trip to Blue 9. The last couple times I've been there it hasn't given me the same thrill. In regards to Veselka, I freakin' love that place. Okay, so I've never had a burger there but the rest of their food is fantastic. I would not be surprised if the burger was out of this world. I guess that's another to add to the list.

I too love Veselka for their Ukranian/Polish foods... in my opinion they have the best borscht in the city. But their burger just didn't do it... it wasn't horible or anything, but definitly not top 10. I haven't been to Blue 9 in like over a year, but the more burgers I eat at all the other joints in the city, the thought of Blue 9 having a top 10 burger also now seems slim. I didn't mean to lump my comment about Burger joint and Goodburger with Blue 9... those two have a good product, I think Blue 9 is good if you're in the area, but that's about it. How about Roll-n-Roster? anyone tried that place down the street from Blue 9?

Hey I have been to Big Nick's Burgers.
The burger is very good, but it ends at the Burger.
Diner fries - under cooked and soggy
Soda unregulated - syrup, water, gas mix way off
